NOБODY CARES

Areeb  “Nobody cares.” The phrase is often used to demean someone in a vulnerable position, but it applies to more than an individual situation. Most people genuinely do not care about things that do not impact them directly, and what can one do when faced with apathy? The typical response is more apathy. This creates a cycle of selfishness with no one to blame. Everyone is playing the carelessness defense at the same time, which leads to the people who need help never getting it. It is important to recognize however, that selfishness is not necessarily inherited in human nature, it is just the current attitude of the majority of people. A lack of empathy stems from the toxic interpretation of individualism; rather than simply caring about individual freedom, we now treat people like unproductive obligations that only weigh us down. We treat friendships like contracts, where both parties must gain to agree on the relationship. Is this our fate? To allow preventable problems and fulfill

Reading

Image
Reading, when I think about reading I always think about how fun it can be, and how it can be good for you. But do you actually know what it does for you? While reading, as we all know, can help you to grow your vocabulary. But can it also help to grow your brain, or maybe even help you live longer?       Studies have shown that the more that you read the more it can help your brain in different ways. One way that is commonly known is how it can improve your memory. This happened because while you are reading it helps your brain function more. And reading has also shown to increase your lifespan.    There are other ways that increasing your reading can improve your brain. Reading can improve brain connectivity, reduce stress which also helps it longer your life span, lowers blood pressure and heart rate, fights depression symptoms, helps you empathize with other people, helps you to fall asleep, prevents cognitive decline as you age, and increases vocabulary. I feel that all of t

Is Caffeine a Replacment For Exercise?

Caffeine isn’t a replacement for exercise. That sentence is an odd but true one. Caffeine does give you energy and wake you up in the morning. However, exercise does the same thing. Caffeine takes less work. True but it has some serious negative impacts on your body and health. However, exercise has positive impacts on your physical and mental health. Then what kind of negative effects does caffeine have on your mental health?     Caffeine has long-lasting negative effects on your mental health. For example, caffeine keeps you alert and aware of your surroundings. When you have too much caffeine it can heighten your anxiety. Caffeine also has some serious physical effects on your physical and long-term health.       How does caffeine affect your physical health? Well, caffeine can cause Insomnia; because caffeine keeps you awake, it also makes it difficult to fall asleep. It also makes it difficult for you to get good sleep and wake up feeling refreshed ready for your day; which will

Good Food

The age old question is a hot dog a sandwich? Many people have debated whether or not this delicacy is a true sandwich. Most of the stuff you find online is opinion based which is not right. We need a clear and direct answer to this mind boggling question. Let’s take a deep dive into what these words mean and the regulations a food has to meet to be considered a sandwich.  According to the NHDSC (National Hot dog and Sausage Council) “Limiting the hot dog’s significance by saying it’s ‘just a sandwich’ is like calling the Dalai Lama ‘just a guy’.” They believe that the hot dog cannot be put into one single category. The word hot dog can also express excitement. If you won the lottery you would say “Hot-Dog!” Not “Sand-wich” What I’m getting at is the words hot dog and sandwich are not interchangeable. This makes the word it’s own separate thing. The hot dog has already ingrained itself into the minds of Americans as its own thing. The scary thing is people knew this already but you get

Is a hot dog a sandwich?

Is a hot dog a sandwich? This question has split the public, friends, and family. This question has started countless wars among friends, at the lunch table, or in a classroom. This question is the reason that I will tell you that a hot dog is not and will never be a sandwich.  The first thing that’s needed to be discussed is what is a sandwich? According to the general public and many dictionary websites a sandwich is two or more pieces of bread with a filling in between. If we go by definition then a hot dog is not a sandwich because it’s one piece of bread. However, people have argued that a hot dog is a sub which means it is a sandwich to which people counter by saying it’s a taco therefore it’s not a sandwich. So which is it? Is a hot dog a taco or a sub? The answer is neither. According to Eric Mettenthal who is the president of the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council, a hot dog is not a sub, taco, or a sandwich. Instead, he says “In essence it boils down to a hot dog is its

THE DEER

Image
THE DEER Here is a story on when my family and me ran over a deer. It was a cold night when the accident happened. The moon was glistening and the stars were shining bright. The trees were dimly lit by the car's headlamps. The car was silent as we traveled alone on the road. The radio was playing some very soft music. Then, it happened. I saw movement on the right side of the car and then everything went slow. There was a large object flying towards the car. It came at us running and jumped into the side car. My mom screamed while trying to slow the car down, but it didn't work. I knew that the deer had died on impact because of the speed that we and him were going. The deer had split into many different parts, most of them had flown over the car and into the other side of traffic. There was nothing that we could do, that car was old and didn't have the best brakes. Through this whole thing, I didn’t notice that there was a car behind us. It had swerved into the other sid

Pet Stories

Pet Stories I have a decent amount of pets, my dogs Wrigley and Storm, and my horses, well my moms horses Dream and Annie. Over the years they have caused some trouble so I will be telling some stories that they have done to me or stuff in general.    Let's start with my dogs, now the thing with both my dogs is they are like yin and yang. One is super hyperactive with a bit of muscle to her, that is Wrigley, and one is sleeping all the time and is scared of everything along with being pretty skinny, that is Storm. Now over the years Wrigley has probably caused the most “trouble” and that doesn’t really sound surprising from the description but she is two years younger than Storm. Now Wrigley likes to run inside and outside no matter where, usually when she fights with Storm. This is important because one day they were fighting like they usually do but she was bouncing off the walls with how energetic she was, she actually was too fast and hyper that when I would try to stop her I

Fictional Writing Prompt #2

Prompt: During a war two childhood friends finally meet again, but it isn't the happy reunion u expected. "I trusted you!"        I fell backwards on the ground, the coarse dirt road bit into the palms of my hands. Keres sneered,"Poor choice really."      I turned to look at her, the person who took everything from me. My family, friends, now my kingdom. Soon she would take an attempt on my life. I felt the heel of a boot rest heavily on my windpipe,       “Any last words princess?” I looked her dead in the eyes, hoping to see a glint of humanity, something that told me she wasn't the monster currently threatening my life- The only thing that looked back in me was cruel amusement.      “I suppose that your title is no longer effective if the only thing you rule over is corpses” She raised an eyebrow mockingly. I struggled underneath the heel of her boot, I was losing air. I saw Black spots, I could feel the tears welling up; blurring my vision.       &

Figuring out Feelings

Figuring out Feelings                     Different places equals different feelings. When you are with your friends you might be happy. When you are alone you might be sad. Different places, different feelings. Feelings will vary depending on your setting, or who you’re with. Some common examples of these are, when you’re at school and have an important presentation. Studies show that, “Feeling anxious is part of the normal range of emotions, just like feeling angry or embarrassed. For most teenagers, anxiety doesn't last and goes away on its own. But for some teenagers it doesn't go away or is so intense that it stops them from doing everyday things.” (raisingchildren.net) The different settings and  situations we are in the different emotions occur. This is an example of a bad feeling or one we don’t find fun. Studies show that knowing your topic, being able to get organized, practice, and then practicing some more, visualizing your success, doing some deep breaths,  focus

Fiction Writing Prompt #1

Prompt: A mages friend is quickly dying under strange, almost cursed, circumstances. The mage (Somara) is hurtling every healing spell she possible can at him. The final time she tries she's no longer forcing all her good emotions into the words, but pouring out her doubt and fear: and it makes all the difference. Will Rowan survive? Will Somara be the one to save him?        I felt my breath quicken, my heart was pounding, I looked into his eyes; “ No- no no no you can't do this, stay with me.” The woods around us, which was once a safe haven of calm, now seemed too quiet. It felt like something else was here. I felt Rowan’s pulse . . .  nothing. I had been trying for what seemed like hours, the healing didn't seem to have any affect on his condition. His life force was slipping away, I felt helpless. I pictured Rowan’s lively smile and piercing green eyes, the eyes I stared into now that seem so empty and void. I heard the sound of his laugh- br\ight and clear- I couldn&

Why I Think People are so addicted to video games

The reason I am writing about this is because I have personal experience with addiction and I’m sure that’s why you decided to read this. It's because you are currently or recently dealing with this addiction. A video game addiction. Now you may or may not have similar questions as I have like why can’t I quit or if I do why do I have a feeling of loss. Well most likely you can’t click that wipe button because if you are like me you’ve played that game a lot and you have a lot of cool things you can’t get again right off the bat when you start over. That’s really what holds us back(or at least that's my problem), it’s the experience and knowing that all that time would go to waste. Also, I’m sure you can relate to the feeling of defeat or loss when you click that wipe button. Then you also have all those excuses that even though you want to rage quit, you say to yourself some like “The next match will be better” or “That loss was because of my teammates” or “That wa

Life as a Bunny Tester

Image
Hello fellow humans,  It is I, Thumper the rabbit here to tell you the truth of my life and many others. You see, my life isn’t all gumdrops and rainbows, it's much harder than that. It’s terrifying and scary because you never know what’s going to happen, you might become blind, get a new scar ,  or you might even die, you never know. Let me set the scene for you into my daily life. I live indoors, I’m never outside. I live in a laboratory with other rabbits just like me. We don't do much; we eat, sleep, and test. You might be thinking, “Well that doesn't seem so bad,” but it is, you just don’t know the half of it. About to get the drops of burning chemicals that makes me blind squirted into my eye. Blue gloves, shots, and stress. Blood, scars, burns, and rashes. Chemicals, white coats, and rabbits. This is my reality, no field, no carrots, li

Is Social Media Beneficial to Society?

How many times a day do you scroll through tik tok or instagram comparing yourself to the unrealistic models? According to the back linko “on average 3.96 billion people worldwide use social media.” Social media is one of the main causes of depression, anxiety, and low self esteem in young teens and even children. However, it is also giving people a chance to connect with others from a distance. Why is social media so important? How does it affect us negatively?        Social media became a tool to seek customers and advertise goods online. These different ways helped business into the marketing world. Social media is a way that businesses can reach customers from all over the world in just seconds. This is a great feature customers can benefit from. Although, this is definitely a turning point in harming small local businesses.       According to bachelor studies “a study found that students who spent the most time using social media had fewer academic behaviors, such as comple

Our Ocean

It's garbage day What a relief Bags filled with plastic, It's time for them to leave But where will they go? Now that's a mystery  Let's look together I know my history. Into the ocean Our plastic goes It's okay, Only as long as no one else knows. But the animals beneath us Scream and shout  “Who will it be this time?” We will wait and find out.  Our soda can rings Around their necks  As the animals below us  Take one last breath. The billions of waste Now in the ocean Us humans We sit on top Forgetting what's in our oceans.  “Forgetting?” One might say Or are we just not caring? Mamma always said  “Sharing is caring.” We share our planet  With nature around us, But what about the orcas and dolphins That swim all around us? Let's care for the animals That live in the ocean, And care for our planet  Let's show some devotion. It's not fair to dump our plastic Out in the sea  Let's change our planet It will be nicer for you and me. Let's clean u
